Daily Thought for 08-06-2026

When man chose to sin initially in the Garden, he had no concept of how deadly a virus he would be introducing into the world. From that moment forward, every single person born into this world would be infected with that virus, securely condemning them all to a Christless eternity in Hell; ‘for the wages of sin is death,’ (Rom. 6:23).

Long before man took a bite of that forbidden fruit, God had devised a plan whereby sinful man could be reconciled to Him, though the price tag of following through with the plan made it seem cost prohibitive. Blood would have to be shed on behalf of that sin, and not just any blood. It would have to be blood unspotted from the evil virus plaguing mankind.

Jesus, God’s Son, was both volunteered, and did Himself volunteer in order to come into the realm of man, by actually being born of a virgin. He would live among men, face the trials and temptations of men, offer Himself as the answer to their sin problem, and be rejected categorically and shamefully hung on a cross to die.

While on the cross, Jesus would take the guilt of the sins of all the world upon Him, and then die a substitutionary death. His blood was shed to cover the sins of every man, woman, and child, providing for them an escape for the judgment they so rightly deserved.

Though there are some who espouse a belief that Jesus’ blood was limited in its ability to forgive. They suggest that Jesus blood was only sufficient for the ‘elect,’ or those who would be saved. The problem with that understanding is it is not supported in the Scriptures.

In considering this very issue, the apostle John wrote in…

1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

The word, ‘propitiation,’ has a similar meaning of ‘atonement.’ The word suggests a covering or appeasing. Jesus’ blood appeased a holy and just God for the offense done to Him by man. His sacrifice was sufficient for all men, not just a chosen few.

Though the blood of Christ was completely sufficient, man remained guilty in his sin debt until he would come to Christ by faith, and confess his sin, and trust Him as His only way to forgiveness.

When Jesus died on the cross, He willingly took upon Himself the debt of all sin, not just those who would come to trust Him. As such, judgment will have an even greater sting when the lost stand before the Lord, having caused Him undue pain and suffering on their behalf, only to have rejected His sacrifice.

The Lord Jesus Christ shed His blood to pay for the sins of all mankind, and we who know Him will lift our voices in praise and thanksgiving for His unspeakable gift throughout eternity.
