Daily Thought for 08-11-2026

There is not a CEO in the world that provides 24/7 access to himself. Even small companies must protect the time and availability of their top executives; if the business is going to be productive, it must be well run. However, our God has blessed us by giving us access to Himself anytime day or night. In fact, the book of Hebrews tells us that we are to come to Him boldly.

God not only wants us to come to Him, He makes that access free and easy. With such a rich blessing, wouldn’t all of mankind be on His doorstep constantly? Of course, believers would take advantage of this offer, regularly spending long hours conversing with Him and bringing requests. At least, that would make logical sense. Sadly, I fear that the throne room of God is often quite empty. Instead of taking every opportunity to fellowship with the Creator of the Universe, the Savior of mankind, we are more likely to occupy our time with less productive ventures, like watching TV, and playing games.

We often bemoan the fact that we don’t have a better prayer life, and yet, we do little to improve it. Is it possible that one of the reasons we find ourselves not in the presence of the Lord is because we really don’t know Him? Instead of being drawn to Him, do we instead experience a little dread or fear about standing before Him?

Maybe there’s an even more troubling reason why we waste so many opportunities to fellowship with Him. Maybe we don’t know Him well enough to trust Him. Perhaps instead of being drawn to Him with every problem, we linger, waiting for things to somehow work out on their own. Sure, God could have been a help to us, but what if it wasn’t in His plan this time?

Believers are missing out on so much in their relationship with their God largely because they don’t know Him well enough. Paul was concerned for the young believers at Ephesus and offered up a remarkable prayer on their behalf. He prayed in…

Ephesians 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

He was pleading on their behalf for more wisdom to discern His perfect nature; to be able to think like He thinks, and feel like He feels.

Along with that request was what He called ‘revelation’ in the knowledge of Him. The idea is the ability to better see all of who Jesus is as He is laid out in front of you. This would be a teacher teaching biology by having the students open up a frog to learn what is inside. You might say the frog’s insides were ‘revealed’ to the student.

By having more knowledge of who Jesus is, He will draw us close as we begin to closely admire His goodness and grace, His faithfulness and mercy, and His kindness and love.
